Architectural Consulting
for Small Firms
Remote · Based in Chattanooga, TN
Strategic project architect and BIM support for small architecture firms navigating growth, transition, and documentation-heavy phases.
I’m Kristin, a licensed architect with over a decade of experience in small architecture practices. I understand how quickly workloads can shift — and how difficult it can be to justify a full-time hire when project demands fluctuate.
My consulting practice is designed to fill that gap.
I provide project architect–level support during busy periods, staffing transitions, and documentation-heavy phases — integrating seamlessly into your existing workflows and standards.
Focused on clear documentation, thoughtful coordination, and continuity across project phases, I help firms maintain momentum without overextending internal resources.
All services are provided remotely and tailored to your firm’s templates and systems.

Your Questions, Answered
-
I primarily work with small architecture firms (1–15 people) that need experienced project architect–level support without hiring full-time staff. My background is in high-end residential, multi-unit housing, resort, and small commercial work.
-
I integrate into your existing team and workflow. I support design development, coordination, and documentation, but I do not replace your design leadership. My role is to strengthen execution and continuity, not redirect design intent.
-
I maintain an active Archicad license and work primarily within Archicad-based BIM workflows. My experience includes BIM modeling, template integration, consultant coordination, and full construction documentation.
I am also open to working in Revit, AutoCAD, and SketchUp. If your firm provides access to your existing software environment, I can integrate directly into your workflow. For extended engagements that require ongoing use of another platform, I am open to arranging a dedicated subscription as part of the contract structure.
Regardless of platform, my focus is seamless integration into your established standards, file structure, and documentation systems.

Yes. All services are provided remotely and coordinated to align with your firm’s workflow and project timelines.
At the start of each engagement, we establish a clear structure for communication and deliverables. Together, we determine the appropriate frequency for check-ins, milestones, and documentation updates based on the project’s pace and level of involvement required. This ensures expectations are aligned and progress remains consistent.
I am available for ongoing coordination via Zoom or Google Meet and work comfortably within Teams, email, and shared project platforms.

Engagements are structured to align with your firm’s project scope, timeline, and financial framework.
Hourly (Standard Rate)
Work may be billed at a set hourly rate, with weekly summaries outlining hours worked and tasks completed. This provides transparency and allows your firm to monitor progress in real time.Hourly with a Not-to-Exceed Limit
For projects with tighter fee constraints can be structured with a defined not-to-exceed amount. This offers flexibility while maintaining cost control and predictability.Fixed Fee / Scoped Engagement
For clearly defined scopes of work — such as BIM modeling and documentation for a defined project phase — a fixed fee can be established based on agreed deliverables and timeline.Having worked extensively within small architecture practices, I understand the importance of maintaining project profitability. I communicate proactively regarding hours and scope progression, and I do not allow billing to drift beyond expectations without discussion. My goal is to provide support that strengthens your project delivery without creating financial strain.

No. I provide project architect–level consulting support. Final responsibility and stamping remain with the architect of record.

Consulting support allows firms to maintain flexibility during busy seasons, staffing transitions, or documentation-heavy phases without long-term payroll commitments.
It can also provide temporary coverage during maternity or paternity leave, extended medical leave, or other situations where continuity is needed but permanent hiring is not appropriate. For firms taking on a single large project, consulting support offers a way to expand capacity for that project alone without permanently increasing overhead.
In my experience working within small firms, we have often faced moments of opportunity — securing a larger project that would allow the firm to grow — accompanied by the question: do we hire to support this one significant commission, and risk carrying that payroll if the work pipeline shifts, or do we decline the opportunity to protect stability?
Strategic consulting support can help bridge that gap. It allows firms to pursue growth, maintain continuity, and protect internal margins without committing to long-term staffing decisions before the work volume is proven sustainable.
